Dachshund Paws & Pals Rescue

Dachshund Paws & Pals is a registered 501c3 non profit rescue.

How we started....

The rescue was started in 2005, in the memory of Peewee. Peewee was the very first dog to Dachshund Paws founder, Tara.

As a child my mom gave me my first dog, a dachshund named Peewee. Peewee and I were inseparable. I did everything with him. He wore dresses, I pushed him in a stroller, carried him around like a baby, he wore a life vest at the river, rode horses with me and he slept with me at night. Peewee was the very best friend a girl could have. As a young teenager, my mom passed away from cancer. I felt all alone in life and did not know how I could continue, but Peewee was always there with a wet kiss to remind me otherwise. Through the years, as I got older and moved out of the house and into my first, second and third apartments Peewee went with me and  was always happy. We moved from state to state and then back. Peewee was always by my side. As the years got on, so did Peewee. Peewee lived to be 20 years old. I believe he knew I needed him. When I knew it was time to let him go, I thanked him for being such a great dog, told him not to worry about me, that I would be okay and I gave him a kiss. As tears fell to his head, he fell asleep in my arms. Peewee was the best friend I ever had. Life was made more bearable, when I was able to come home to my dog. Peewee taught me that animals are much more than just an animal, they give us far more than we can ever give them. As I got older, I knew I needed to repay that never ending love. Thus started Dachshund Paws.
