Dachshund Paws and Pals Rescue
Until they all have a home......

Placing Animals With Seniors (PAWS)

Placing Animals With Seniors is a program that is very close to our founders heart. When this rescue was started, it was decided that a main focus would be on the senior dogs out there that so deserve a warm, loving home to spend their last years. Most purebred dogs are easily rescued and adopted from shelters, but the seniors are often left behind. This broke our hearts and we have always opened our homes and hearts to them. These are the animals that need our help the most. Once a foster home takes in a senior dog from the shelter, they learn the true meaning of rescue. These poor souls have given their love and life to their person for so long and usually an unfortunate circumstance has landed them homeless. Our PAWS program is aimed towards finding these senior dogs a warm lap, a soft bed, an afternoon stroll and a kiss on the forehead. But most of all they deserve to spend the rest of their lives, no matter how long that may be, safe and loved.

PAWS is a new program we are starting to help place our aging pets, with senior parents. We are looking for grandma's and grandpa's who just need a little extra love and have a little extra love to give. Many seniors assisted living homes and active senior homes allow pets. The PAWS program is for those 65 year and older who would like to adopt an aging pet*. We always have several to choose from. All these pets* are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, have any medical or dental work needed and a full health check up. The dogs are fully vetted and ready for their new parent.

If you are a senior in an assisted living or active senior/retirement community, any pet who qualifies* under the PAWS program is free of charge to you. We require an adoption application, a home visit and a signed contract by the adopter and the facility stating that at anytime you are unable to care for the pet, they must be returned to the rescue. Dachshund Paws will retain ownership of the microchip.

If you are a senior who is 65 year or older not living in an assisted community, any pet who qualifies* under the PAWS program is an adoption fee of $75. We require an adoption application, a home visit and a signed contract by the adopter that if at anytime you are unable to care for the pet, they must be returned to the rescue.

Please email paawsplacement@yahoo.com with any questions!

*Qualified pets- they will be listed on our adoptable pets page with the added wording of PAWS qualified. These pets are always available for any approved adopter at the listed adoption fee.
